We had our first Sunday with our new Bishopric. It was very interesting. We have sacrament for the first meeting and on Sunday it started 10 minutes late. Baby steps.
Elder McBride and I gave talks in sacrament meeting. Keep in mind that Elder McBride has been speaking Portuguese for only 2 months. But he did well. He spoke about the 4th Article of Faith (Principles and Ordinances of the Gospel). He spoke for 10 minutes. I was impressed. Then I spoke about being an excellent person. I told a couple short stories that I had heard on the mission about endurance and trying your hardest. I also talked about the Angel Moroni fulfilling his calling. How the Lord asked Moroni to tell Joseph Smith about the plates, appearing to Joseph Smith 3 times in the same night and one more time the next day in a dream. The Angel Moroni was an excellent messenger and fulfilled what the Lord asked of him.
Another crazy thing happened here. On Saturday we had lunch with a member who was interviewed by the Stake President to be called as Elder's Quorum President. But when last Sunday came around this member went outta town so he wasn't there when all the new callings were given. Long story short: they ended up calling a different man in the ward as Elder’s Quorum President and didn’t tell the other guy that he wouldn’t be it. Did you follow that? So this guy didn’t know anything about it until last Saturday when I asked him, "How come you didn’t get a calling?" And he said, "What are you talking about? I’m going to be the Elders Quorum President." And I was like, "That’s not what I heard, saw, and manifested with my right hand on Sunday...” Then this guy went crazy. It caused alot of drama. I didn’t like being the one to break that to him.
It's fun training an American. When I trained a Brazilian I just taught him about missionary stuff. With Elder McBride I teach him missionary stuff and Brazilian culture. He’s already eaten cow intestine, seen a lady breast-feed in front of him, and has experienced rice and beans. He speaks Portuguese very well.
Alright that’s about it for now. I hope everyone’s doing well. This last Sunday was 13 months for me. But who’s counting..........?
